News: Bijwasan Toll U-Turn Underpass Needs About 8.5 Acres-12-04-2026
The U-turn underpass that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) announced earlier this year for the Bijwasan toll plaza on the Dwarka Expressway will need around 8.5 acres, according to a survey by private consultant AECOM-CEG, officials aware of the report said.
About 6.67 acres (over 27,000 square metres) already lie within the expressway carriageway. A further 1.7 acres (around 7,000 sqm) of private land, part of a green belt owned by a private developer, must be acquired for approach roads on both sides. The report put the total at around 34,500 sq m. The department of town and country planning will verify the green belt’s zoning status. No timeline for acquisition or construction has been finalised.
The proposal was discussed in February at a meeting chaired by NHAI chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav with GMDA officials. In a letter dated April 8, NHAI sought early verification of the land details furnished by GMDA.
Rakesh Rana, president of Saikunj RWA, said the underpass would improve safety and convenience, and sought a temporary U-turn until it is built.
