News: GMDA Invites Bids for Rs 4.53-Crore Road Safety Overhaul-09-04-2026
Road safety fittings along principal roads in sectors 1 to 23 are due for a major upgrade, with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) inviting bids worth Rs 4.53 crore, officials said on Thursday.
The tender went out on April 8. Contractors can submit bids online until April 21, after which technical and financial assessments will follow. The tender document, posted on the Haryana government website, sets out what is to be fitted on GMDA roads over the coming year: about 5,000 median markers and as many road studs, 2,000 metal beam crash barriers, 1,000 each of cat eyes and bollards, and 720 warning signboards, besides other items. Plastic speed breakers, rumble strips, overhead road markers and hazard signboards with retro-reflective sheeting are also covered, as are steel portable barriers.
The stretches named are Old/New Railway road, Civil Lines road, 23/23A, 18/19, Mahavir Chowk to Atul Kataria, Udyog Vihar connecting corridors, 21/22 Dividing, and Basai roads.
Amit Godara, executive engineer in GMDA’s infrastructure division-1, said the works are "aimed at enhancing commuter safety". He added that the plan provides for speed calming and traffic guidance to cut accidents, tighten lane discipline and let pedestrians cross busy corridors safely.
This follows other recent steps. Two tenders for crash barriers across sectors 1 to 57 were floated in February 2026; allotment is under way and completion is targeted for year-end. The district traffic police had flagged 80 intersections to GMDA in December 2025, including Rezang La Chowk and AIT Chowk, and in January 2026 GMDA cleared two similar tenders, for the master road dividing Sector 114 outer and the 51/52 dividing master roads, each with a six to eight-month timeline. Separately, the district road safety committee has recommended fixes at 145 accident-prone spots, drawn from 2023 and 2024 accident records. It inspected six corridors linked to NH-48 on February 4 and passed its recommendations to the road-owning National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
