News: Saini Scraps Dhanwapur STP Tender, Orders Delay Inquiry-09-04-2026
Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday told the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to reinvite the tender for a 100 MLD sewage treatment plant (STP) at Dhanwapur and ordered an inquiry into why the project, approved in 2020, has been delayed by nearly six years.
The directions came at a high-powered purchase committee meeting he chaired in Chandigarh late on Wednesday evening. Senior officials said three bidders took part in GMDA’s tender for the Rs 166 crore project but quoted excessively high rates, so the tender was cancelled.
It will be reissued under a revised framework in which the contractor receives 51 per cent of the payment on completing construction and the remaining 49 per cent after a 10-year maintenance period. A senior official at the meeting said a committee will inquire into the delay and the reframed tender will be submitted for approval within two months.
GMDA chief engineer Hemant Kumar said the chief minister approved a 665 MLD main pumping station at Dhanwapur for Surya Vihar at a cost of Rs 101 crore. A Japanese firm has been appointed consultant for the proposed drain from Gurugram to Palwal. Other key GMDA projects were also cleared.
