News: 100 Electric Buses for Gurugram by July: PMI Electro-09-04-2026
Gurugram is set to receive 100 electric buses by July this year after more than two years of delay. The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has issued a letter of acceptance to PMI Electro Mobility Solutions Private Limited, the company chosen to supply and operate them, officials said.
The buses will come in two tranches of 50 each. Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMCBL) will pay the company Rs 55.47 per kilometre for leasing and operation. Tender documents show a 12-year operating agreement, with each bus expected to run 5,400 km per month. The buses are being procured under the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme. The operator will maintain them and provide drivers, and the city bus service will deploy conductors.
Officials said the proposal was taken up on February 16 at a high-level procurement committee meeting chaired by chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, where final negotiations were held and the rate approved.
GMCBL CEO Vishwajeet Chaudhary said all arrangements are in place and operations will begin as soon as the buses arrive. The Sector 10 e-bus depot is complete, with a power substation built on the premises and an electricity connection applied for with Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN). The Sector 48 depot is under construction and nearing completion.
Routes have been finalised. City buses now run on 23 routes but, for want of vehicles, do not serve sectors along the Dwarka Motorway, Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) and Golf Course Extension Road. These will be covered once the new fleet is deployed. GMCBL’s existing 150 CNG buses are around eight years old.
A senior government official said the process began in November 2023 and stalled in 2024 when a supplier challenged the tender in the Delhi high court. Later bids were held up by pending approvals and cost-related issues. The matter was settled in late 2025 after the litigation ended and the tender was finalised.
