News: Gurugram Court Complex to Get 10 Sanitary Pad Machines-06-04-2026
The Public Works Department (PWD) on Saturday floated a tender to install sanitary pad vending machines in Gurugram’s district court complex, officials said on Sunday.
Private agencies can bid until April 13, after which the Rs 5 lakh tender will be technically evaluated. Officials said similar processes are under way at several of the city’s civil and labour courts.
The tender provides for 10 vending-cum-incinerator machines in the existing women’s washrooms, each stocked for a year with an estimated 3,000 units. PWD executive engineer Charandeep Rana said each machine can dispense 33 napkins per day and incinerate 80, and that the decision reflects the rising number of women visiting the complex.
Dr. Anju Rawat Negi, senior advocate at the district court, said women lawyers and daily visitors now number over 1,000, against 60-70 around two decades ago. The two first-floor washrooms are rarely cleaned, she said, forcing women to use the nearby mini secretariat. Another senior bar member said the existing machines no longer work.
C.K. Sharma, the newly-elected bar council president, said instructions were given last week to clean toilets daily.
