News: Only 38% of Sectors 81-115 Green Belts Fully Developed-03-04-2026
Most of the green belt land along Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) roads in sectors 81 to 115 is undeveloped or only partly developed, according to data obtained through an RTI.
Of 712,364 square metres (sqm) designated as green belt, around 38 per cent is fully developed and the remaining 62 per cent is incomplete or untouched. GMDA gave the figures in reply to an RTI filed in February by a Sector 92 resident seeking five years of maintenance and plantation details.
GMDA directly maintains around 24 per cent of the area. Of that, about 25 percent (43,051 sqm) is fully developed, 52 per cent partially developed and nearly 23 per cent not developed. Another 540,159 sqm has been assigned to corporates, of which 43 per cent is fully developed, 50 per cent undeveloped and around 8 per cent partially developed.
Parveen Malik, president of the United Association of New Gurugram, who filed the RTI, said green belts are poorly developed, encroached upon and used as dumping sites. He said residents’ requests for pre-monsoon plantation drew little action.
A senior GMDA official said tenders have been floated for two projects, a detailed survey has been done and the authority is working with corporates under CSR.
