News: Embankments, Pumps Ordered for Flood-Hit Sector 107-02-04-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has been told to prevent the annual monsoon flooding of Sector 107, which lies along the Najafgarh drain, officials said.
According to a government communiqué dated March 19, Haryana urban local bodies minister Vipul Goel asked GMDA to build embankments around residential societies in the sector, deploy adequate pumping machinery and prepare a comprehensive plan for a permanent solution. The matter came up at a February 25 review meeting he chaired on drain cleaning, sewer maintenance and garbage disposal in Gurugram and Faridabad, where DS Dhesi, principal advisor, Urban Development, Haryana government, flagged the flooding and suggested these steps.
During last year’s monsoon, around 1,500 families in M3M Woodshire and Signature Solera were stranded for nearly a week. Residents used tractor-trolleys, schools closed and the district administration brought in pumps.
GMDA executive engineer Vikram Singh said arrangements will be in place before the monsoon, with pumps stationed near the societies.
Officials said stormwater from Gurugram reaches the Najafgarh drain through Leg No. 1, Leg No. 2 and the Badshahpur drain before merging into the Yamuna. The drain’s capacity is around 10,000 cusecs, and overflow after heavy rain affects villages such as Dharampur, Budhera, Chandu, Dhankot, Kherki Majra and Basai. The state has also proposed a new drain route from Gurugram to Sohna, Palwal and the Yamuna.
