News: Four Gurugram Wards Picked for Rs 2,000-Crore Makeover Pilot-31-03-2026
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has begun work on a proposed Rs 2,000-crore plan to give four municipal wards a "Europe-like look", officials familiar with the project said. The money is to come from the central government and be allocated to the MCG.
The pilot covers wards 33, 11, 25 and 1, at an estimated cost of over Rs 500 crore per ward. The proposal is under consideration and is expected to go before the MCG’s finance and contract committee (F&CC) at its next meeting. It is being implemented with the Haryana Urban Local Bodies (ULB) department.
Plans include model roads, theme parks, waterfalls and redesigned ward entrances, along with uniform street landscaping, pedestrian paths, cycling tracks, underground utilities, façade improvements, smart lighting and better signage. Civic authorities said ward-wise micro-planning and final design standards will be set out in DPRs now under review, and exact benchmarks have not yet been made public.
Officials said the pilot was conceived under a framework introduced by the Safexsure Foundation and Savitri Chander RWA India (SRWA) for four cities, Gurugram, Panchkula, Delhi and Mumbai, with Gurugram chosen first.
Road upgrades have started in Sector 47 under Ward 11. DPRs worth over Rs 20 crore, prepared by SRWA-empanelled consultancy Safexsure Designs & Projects, are being sent to the Directorate of Urban Local Bodies (DULB) for administrative approval.
