News: MCG Restores Defunct Rainwater Harvesting, Tenders 130 New-31-03-2026
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has begun work on restoring defunct rainwater harvesting systems and adding 130 modular units, days after announcing the plan, officials said.
Last week officials cited Central Ground Water Board data showing the water table had fallen from 7.57 metres in 1974 to below 30 metres, putting the city in the "dark zone".
They said 404 existing systems are being repaired and upgraded, and tenders have been floated for the 130 new units at an estimated Rs 15 crore. The focus will be on Cyber City and other dense areas where construction has reduced natural recharge. Executive engineer Sandeep Dhundwal confirmed the tendering process had begun.
More than 80 systems had gone completely defunct through poor maintenance and falling water levels, and deeper borewells will reconnect them to the water table. Private agencies will handle operation and maintenance.
