News: HSPCB Wants Gurugram Drain-Cleaning SOP, Fresh STP Sampling-27-03-2026
Gurugram’s civic bodies were told on Friday by the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) to draw up a standard operating procedure (SOP) for cleaning stormwater drains and sewerage links, officials said.
At a meeting chaired by member secretary Yogesh Kumar, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) were asked to speed up the planned diversion of treated wastewater from Leg III to Leg II, meant to balance flow and cut pollution in clogged drains.
Reviewing work under the Yamuna Clean Action Plan, Kumar ordered another joint sampling of sewage treatment plants (STPs) to identify underutilised ones and sought an action taken report within two weeks.
Officials said GMDA identified around 53 illegal connections in legs II and III of the stormwater drain in January and tapped 14, with another 39 expected to be cut by June.
Akansha Tanwar, HSPCB regional officer in Gurugram (North), said civic authorities have been asked to map polluting points under phase II within three months, and solid waste extracted from drains will be assessed and scientifically disposed of.
Kumar also told MCG to form a special team against illegal dispersal of wastewater by tankers and to seek details of all new tanker registrations.
