News: MG Road Iffco Chowk to Haryana Border Passes to NHAI-26-03-2026
The 5.5km stretch of MG Road between Iffco Chowk and the Haryana border, now with the Haryana PWD, will be taken over by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) next month, officials said, after the authority issued a notification for its entrustment.
Highway officials said on Wednesday that NHAI will then appoint a consultant to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for upgrading the corridor, and will examine whether an interchange can be built at Iffco Chowk.
A senior NHAI official said the direction for entrustment was issued on February 6. The rest of the road, from the Haryana border to Andheria Morh in Delhi, was taken over from the Delhi PWD last year, and the road is designated NH148A. NHAI is already upgrading that 7.5km stretch, he added.
After the takeover, the authority will first recarpet the surface, clean drains and repair footpaths.
The official said Iffco Chowk is likely to become a major transport hub, as the Delhi-Bawal and Gurugram-Faridabad RRTS lines will converge there and a metro station is proposed.
