News: Only a few IT companies like, Wipro, Accenture & Tech Mahindra honour job offers-07-04-2020

Accenture is one of the largest employers in the IT sector, hiring an average of about 2,500 people every month in India in the last one year.
Mumbai: Leading IT companies such as WiproNSE -0.29 %, Accenture and Tech MahindraNSE -3.93 % have decided to honour offers made to new hires. These companies have already started virtual on-boarding of recruits – which includes “laterals” as well as fresh graduates.
This assumes importance as IT sector is one of the largest employers in the country with over 20,000 job offers handed out every month. According to Nasscom, the industry hired 205,000 new employees in FY20. The sector employs close to 45 lakh people.
“Accenture in India is honouring all offers made so far, and associated benefits are effective from the date of joining,” said Lakshmi C, managing director and lead, human resources, Accenture India.

“Covid-19 outbreak continues to be a critical concern for businesses globally. In terms of hiring of lateral recruits and management trainees, all the offer letters issued will be respected,” said Tech Mahindra chief people officer Harshvendra Soin.
“Wipro Ltd will honour all offer letters made to candidates.”
“Some companies are honouring the offer commitments, while there are others who are either deferring the joining date or requesting the person to stay put in the current jobs for the time being; in some cases even compensating them with a month’s salary,” said Kamal Karanth, co-founder, Xpheno.
“One of the challenges that they might face is solving the logistics and the security issues for e-onboarding…Allowing new hires BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) will be a challenge,” he said.
However, Accenture, Tech Mahindra and Wipro have initiated online on-boarding and have the IT backend support in place.
“Owing to the current crisis situation, we have initiated the process of virtual onboarding across the world which is working well,” said Soin of Tech Mahindra. “We are continuously monitoring the situation at our end, and are well equipped to leverage technologies like tele presence and video conferencing to ensure there is business continuity and employee safety,” he added.
Others such as Accenture have a blended on-boarding model with the teams using a variety of virtual tools to personally engage with new joinees.
