News: Haryana Clears Delhi-Panipat-Karnal Namo Bharat Corridor-24-03-2026
The Haryana Cabinet, meeting in Chandigarh on Tuesday, approved construction of the 136 km Delhi-Panipat-Karnal Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), or Namo Bharat, corridor, which will run from Delhi to Panipat and on to Karnal.
An official statement put the estimated cost at over Rs 33,000 crore, of which the Haryana Government’s share is Rs 7,472 crore, to be released in phases. Eleven stations are proposed in the state. The corridor is expected to cut travel time between Haryana’s urban and semi-urban areas and the National Capital Region, ease road congestion and help control pollution.
Depot infrastructure will be planned jointly by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) and the land-owning agency concerned. The depot will be built at ground level, with provision for commercial development above it to generate additional revenue. To improve the project’s financial viability, the Transit Oriented Development policy will permit a higher Floor Area Ratio around RRTS stations.
The Cabinet named the Administrative Secretary, Town & Country Planning Department as nodal officer and authorised him to sign agreements and related documents with NCRTC. It also desired that the corridor be extended beyond Karnal to Panchkula via Kurukshetra and Saha, and that the matter be taken up with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and NCRTC.
