News: NCRTC Seeks Direct Land Purchase for Two Namo Bharat Lines-23-03-2026
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has requested the Haryana government to approve a direct purchase policy for acquiring land for two Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors, so that the projects can move faster.
In a February 19 communication, NCRTC managing director Shalabh Goel said acquisition under the RFCTLARR Act, 2013, is time-consuming and could delay the projects. He sought a policy similar to the one Haryana recently cleared for Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL), under which land is bought through mutual negotiation via a district land purchase committee headed by the deputy commissioner.
NCRTC said the detailed project reports (DPRs) for both corridors have been approved by Haryana and are with the Union government. The Delhi-Gurugram-Bawal corridor is 93.12km long, with 71.14km in Haryana, and the Delhi-Panipat-Karnal corridor is 136.30km, including 100.15km in the state. Together they need 202.98 hectares of government land and 154 hectares of private land. A construction tender for the Delhi-Gurugram-Bawal corridor is expected within a month.
A senior HMRTC official said the proposal is under consideration and the town and country planning department is likely to submit a report soon.
The revised DPR for the Delhi-Gurugram-Bawal corridor schedules land acquisition between December 2025 and November 2027, elevated structures between August 2026 and August 2030, underground works till January 2031 and commissioning by November 2031.
