News: GMDA to Take Over Sector 81-115 Sewer Network From HSVP-19-03-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will take over operation and maintenance of a 69-km sewer network in sectors 81 to 115 from Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP). The decision was taken on Thursday at the 8th district coordination meeting at the Mini Secretariat, chaired by D.S. Dhesi, principal advisor, urban development, Haryana.
GMDA chief executive officer P.C. Meena, deputy commissioner Ajay Kumar, MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya and DCP (traffic) Rajesh Mohan attended. Officials were told to jointly inspect the existing 66.5-km sewer pipeline for desilting status and efficiency. HSVP and the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) were directed to develop micro sewage treatment plants (STPs) to reduce reliance on the centralised system.
Authorities were also ordered to step up enforcement against illegal borewells and unauthorised groundwater extraction. Treated wastewater has been made mandatory for non-potable uses such as construction, horticulture and dust suppression.
On projects, GMDA said tenders have been floated for the elevated corridor from Vatika Chowk to NH-48, and grade separators near Millennium City Centre metro station and Bakhtawar Chowk are being planned. A consultant is being appointed for the six-lane road from Harsaru bypass on Gurugram-Pataudi Road to Jhajjar via Wazirpur. A 25 MW waste-to-energy plant and a 20 MLD common effluent treatment plant in Manesar were discussed.
Departments were asked to intensify work under the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) action plan, and road repairs were prioritised before the monsoon. The state has approved 200 electric buses, with depots planned in Sector 65 and Manesar.
Dhesi called for better inter-departmental coordination and said delays would be closely monitored.
