News: Gurugram Rapid Metro Ridership Up 13.55%, Turns Profit-19-03-2026
Gurugram’s Rapid Metro recorded a 13.55% rise in ridership in 2025-2026 over the period from April 1, 2024 to January 31, 2025, the Haryana government said on Thursday. The figures were reviewed at the 64th board meeting of the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC), chaired by chief secretary Anurag Rastogi.
An HMRTC statement said the network carried over 17,900,000 passengers between April 2024 and February 2026, against 15,300,000 in the corresponding period last year. July saw the highest monthly growth at 22.93%. Revenue rose to 58.94 crore (12.64%) up to January 2026 from 42.07 crore the previous year. A government spokesperson said non-fare revenue grew 108%, from around Rs 12 crore to Rs 24 crore, through monetisation of station space and advertisements, among others.
Chander Shekhar Khare, managing director, HMRTC, said the Rapid Metro has come into operational profit for the first time. He said DPR preparation has been approved for intra-city corridors including the 17.09 km Bhondsi-Subhash Chowk-Rajeev Chowk-Sohna Chowk-Railway Station line.
Officials said the proposed metro from Sector 56 to Panchgaon is under active consideration, with HSIIDC studying the DPR and finalising a depot site in Sector 36A near Sihi village. RITES is assessing the Ballabhgarh-Palwal extension, and a fresh study is under way for Bahadurgarh-Asaudha connectivity.
The spokesperson said station locations on the Gurugram-Faridabad Namo Bharat corridor have been approved and NCRTC is preparing the DPR. The Delhi-Kundli metro extension will go to the Haryana cabinet at its next meeting. The 136.3 km Delhi-Panipat-Karnal RRTS corridor has progressed, and the Delhi-Bawal corridor is under consideration by the Government of India.
