News: Old Gurugram Sewer Line Replacement Before Monsoon-12-03-2026
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has started replacing ageing sewer lines in parts of Old Gurugram to tackle recurring overflows and contamination of drinking water, officials said.
More than 20 locations are covered, including Sadar Bazar, Jacobpura, Gurugram village, Sushant Nagar, Nai Basti, Civil Lines and Patel Nagar. Officials said the network in many of these areas is 30 to 40 years old and cannot handle the present population and sewage load, causing overflows and waterlogging in the monsoon. The total cost is being finalised and should be known within a week.
Work has begun in Jacobpura, where 250 mm diameter pipelines are being replaced with 600 mm ones. Nearly 1,200 metres of sewer lines in four major streets are being renovated at an estimated Rs 1.3 crore, and drinking water pipelines are also being replaced to prevent contamination from leaks.
In Sadar Bazar, MCG will use CIPP (cured-in-place pipe) technology, a trenchless method in which a resin-coated liner is inserted into the damaged pipe and hardened to form a new pipe inside it. Officials said this avoids large-scale digging in the busy market.
Vijay Dahiya, chief engineer, MCG, said lines are being replaced in phases with the aim of eliminating major overflow points before the monsoon. Separate estimates and tenders will be issued area-wise so work can proceed simultaneously. Separately, a stormwater drainage system is being developed in Sector 9 and Sector 9A.
