News: GMCBL Drafts 20 New Routes for 100 Incoming Gurugram E-Buses-10-03-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMCBL) has drafted a route plan for 100 electric buses due in the coming months, officials confirmed on Sunday. The draft, seen by HT, proposes 20 new routes of about 380km covering new Gurugram sectors, the Dwarka Expressway corridor, Manesar and the airport metro interchange at Sector 21 in Delhi.
Around 18 buses will head west to areas such as Farrukhnagar, Sultanpur National Park and Chandu Bhudhera, 24 north towards Palam Vihar and AIIMS Badsa, 24 south to Sohna, Maruti Kunj and Sector 1/IMT Manesar, and 22 east to Ghata, Cyber City and Huda City Centre. The rest will serve central areas.
New sectors along the Dwarka Expressway get eight routes with 54 buses over around 96km. The longest proposed routes include IMT Manesar to Cyber City (28 km), the Dwarka Sector 21 airport interchange (32 km) and Gurugram bus stand to Ballabhgarh bus stand (42 km).
Four trunk corridors connecting Sector 2, Ghata, Sohna, Manesar and the railway station will have around 35 buses over nearly 90km, running at high frequency with fewer stops. A senior GMCBL official said the plan is still nascent.
For last-mile connectivity, about 30 buses are proposed on seven routes of over 100km. Four regional routes of about 140km would connect Manesar with Dwarka Mod and the Sector 21 interchange, and the Gurugram bus stand with AIIMS Badsa, Karol Bagh and Ballabhgarh.
Smaller 9-metre buses will run on narrow stretches where 12-metre buses face constraints. The official said routes will be tried out after the buses arrive, expected within three months, and modified based on footfall and demand. Each bus is planned to run around 200km daily at a payable operational cost of Rs 55.47 per km.
