News: MCG to Bring 50,000 More Streetlights Under Central Control-08-03-2026
Gurugram’s streetlights are to be run through a centralised control and monitoring system (CCMS) in place of manual switching in different parts of the city, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) officials said. The project is being implemented with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).
The city has around 112,000 streetlights. About 20,000 are already linked to the system through 798 panels. Around 500 more panels are planned, which will bring nearly 50,000 lights under remote operation from a central control room, with automatic switching at set times.
Ashish Hooda, executive engineer (electrical), MCG, said installation of the 500 panels has been approved, the tender process has started and work should begin soon.
Officials said the system allows many lights to be controlled together from one platform, detects faults in real time, tracks electricity use and flags maintenance needs quickly. They expect it to cut power wastage and improve night-time visibility and safety.
Earlier, lights were operated locally by maintenance staff or contractors, which often led to delays and complaints of lights staying off or burning unnecessarily. Officials said the centralised system has been under consideration for several years.
