News: GMDA Scraps Atul Kataria Chowk Drain Contract Over Delays-06-03-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has cancelled the tender for a stormwater drain from Atul Kataria Chowk on Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road to IFFCO Colony in Sector 17 on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway, citing delays despite repeated notices.
The Rs 12.80 crore project was awarded on May 19 last year with a one-year deadline. Officials said notices to speed up work were issued from July, six by the sub-divisional engineer and 14 by the executive engineer. A senior GMDA official said a fine of Rs 1.28 crore was imposed when the contractor still failed to expedite work.
On March 3, the authority formed a four-member committee of sub divisional engineers Shamsher Singh and R.K. Munjal and junior engineers Abhishek Kumar and Arun Kumar to assess the work and site.
The order of the same date directs the contractor to stop all work immediately and depute a representative for a final joint measurement, failing which an ex-parte measurement will be final.
Officials said the drain would have considerably reduced waterlogging, and the delay was causing heavy congestion.
