News: NHAI Plans Extra Lane at Masani Barrage on Delhi-Jaipur Road-06-03-2026
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to widen the Masani barrage bridge near Rewari by one lane and build a two-kilometre road towards Jaipur to relieve a long-standing choke-point for traffic from Delhi and Gurugram, officials said. Land has been identified and the authority will soon place its requirements before the state government.
At the barrage, around 45km from both Gurugram and Neemrana, the Delhi-Jaipur highway splits into two spurs. The Jaipur-to-Delhi side has a three-lane road and bridge, while the Delhi-to-Jaipur side has only two lanes, which creates the bottleneck.
A senior NHAI official said the new three-lane road of about 2 km will start near the barrage on the Delhi-Jaipur side, cross the barrage and rejoin the highway. The existing narrow road causes jams and a risk of accidents, the official said. Land owned by the state forest department has been identified for the work, and the process to begin construction will start once it is available.
NHAI officials said the Sohna-Rewari highway (NH-919) also meets the Delhi-Jaipur highway here, adding to peak-hour congestion from local and interstate traffic heading to Jaipur and Rewari.
Separately, a traffic survey identified eight unsafe spots where engineering and other road safety measures will be carried out: Bilaspur, Pachgaon, Rampura Chowk, Dharuhera, Sidhrawali Cut, NSG Manesar, Vatika Flyover and Polytechnic College Manesar. The contractor has been told to install road studs, information boards, solar panels, road markings, speed marking boards, white stripes and speed limit information boards. Officials said this work will be completed in the next three months and that improving highway safety is a continuous process.
