News: Two in Three Women Pick Property as Top Investment: Anarock-06-03-2026
Real estate has overtaken fixed deposits and gold as the favoured investment for Indian women, with about 66% naming it their preferred vehicle, according to Anarock’s consumer sentiment survey. Only 3% consider the stock market, down from 20% in 2019. The survey polled 9800 participants, of whom 50% (4900) were women.
Budgets have climbed sharply. Nearly 61% of women homebuyers are looking at homes above Rs 90 lakh, compared with 25% in 2019, when 75% favoured affordable and mid-segment homes below that mark. At least 37% now seek properties priced between Rs 90 lakh and Rs 1.5 crore, 14% prefer the Rs 1.5 crore to Rs 2.5 crore bracket and at least 10% want homes above Rs 2.5 crore, which the survey linked to the growing number of women in the high-net-worth segment.
The survey also said over 71% of women prefer residential real estate for investment. Gold is next on the list, its share rising from 8% in the H2 2019 survey to 18% in the H2 2025 edition, while fixed deposits stand at 13%. The end-use-to-investment ratio for women buyers was 71:29 in 2025, against 77:23 in H2 2019.
Santhosh Kumar, Vice Chairman, ANAROCK Group, said growing financial independence and an appetite for high-yield assets are behind the preference for "brick and mortar", with the stock market barely on the radar.
Larger homes dominate demand. In the H2 2025 edition, over 54% of women respondents preferred 3BHK homes and 14% wanted 4BHKs and above. In H2 2022, the figures were 50% and 20%. Kumar said the modest difference shows the preference for spacious homes is not new, and noted that interest in 1BHKs has shrunk to 4% from 8% in H2 2022.
Interest in new launches is growing as well. Over 20% of women respondents now prefer newly launched homes, against 9% in H2 2019, while the preference for ready-to-move-in homes slipped marginally to 32% from 33%. The survey read this as a sign of a stronger investment approach, adding that women invest with confidence because most new launches are by large and listed developers.
