News: Rs 21.56 Crore Facelift Planned for Gurugram Sector Markets-27-02-2026
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) plans to revamp markets in 16 sectors, improving parking, repairing footpaths and fixing potholed roads to reduce congestion.
The markets identified are in Sectors 5, 7, 7 Extension, 9, 9A, 10A, 15 (Part 1 and 2), 23, 23A, 31, 38, 40 and 46, at an estimated Rs 21.56 crore. Chief engineer Vijay Dhaka said work in a few has been approved and tenders will be floated once all are cleared, with ground work to follow.
Residents said most markets are deteriorating and lack designated or adequate parking. Richa Tiwari, general secretary of the Sector 46 RWA, said people park anywhere in her market, which has potholes, dust and no footpaths.
Sector 40 RWA president Abhimanyu Yadav complained of frequent sewer overflow, damaged footpaths and poor sanitation. The market’s only public toilet, built about a decade ago, is in extremely poor condition, he said, accusing the authorities of complacency.
Shreya Yadav of Sector 23 said broken pavements, haphazard parking and inadequate lighting make her market inconvenient and unsafe in the evenings after years of neglect.
