News: Berkshire’s Ajit Jain Buys DLF Camellias Flat for Rs 85 Crore-24-02-2026
Ajit Jain, Vice Chairman of Insurance Operations at Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, has bought a 7,400 sq ft apartment at DLF The Camellias in Gurugram for around Rs 85 crore, according to Kshitij Jain, founder of Rizin Advisory Pvt Ltd, who brokered the deal.
At nearly Rs 1.10 lakh per sq ft, it is understood to be the highest price paid for the project’s entry-level 7,400 sq ft configuration. Kshitij Jain said two to three Camellias deals closed at lower prices in the last quarter of 2025, and that paperwork for this purchase was completed last week. The home is for personal use, as Ajit Jain is likely to visit India more often and wants to be near family.
Ajit Jain could not be reached, DLF had not responded to queries, and HT Real Estate has not reviewed the property documents.
Industry insiders said NRIs make up nearly 15-20% of Camellias buyers, mainly from the US, UK, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Middle East. Brokers said affluent overseas Indians who visit often prefer a managed residence to hotels and also treat such homes as long-term investments, and that geopolitical uncertainty has encouraged wealthy individuals to keep a base in India.
The Camellias covers 17.5 acres and is often likened to living in a seven-star hotel. Its residents include business leaders, industrialists, CXOs, start-up founders and NRIs, and many of Delhi’s elite have moved there from independent kothis into homes of up to nearly 10,000 sq ft. DLF sold the units as bare shells in 2014 at Rs 22,500 per sq ft. Brokers put rent for a 7,400 sq ft apartment at about Rs 17 lakh a month.
Other notable deals in the project:
- September 2025: four transactions worth a combined Rs 270 crore, comprising two earlier primary penthouse sales and two secondary deals, per CRE Matrix.
- Last year: British businessman Sukhpal Singh Ahluwalia bought an 11,416 sq ft bare-shell, first-floor corner simplex for Rs 100 crore, a price usually seen for higher floors. He confirmed the deal, saying he had considered a farmhouse but chose a gated condominium because he visits often; he owns a property on Kautilya Marg but prefers Gurugram.
- March 2025: Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal registered an apartment he had bought three years earlier for Rs 52.3 crore, per Zapkey.
- December 2024: Rishi Parti, CEO and founder of Info-X Software Technology, bought a penthouse for Rs 190 crore, the costliest deal so far.
- February 2024: a Singapore-based NRI sold a 10,000 sq ft apartment to Smiti Agarwal, wife of V Bazaar Retail CMD Hemant Agarwal, for Rs 95 crore.
- October 2023: an 11,000 sq ft apartment resold for about Rs 114 crore.
Separately, brokers said a Delhi-NCR industrialist bought four apartments totalling nearly 35,000 sq ft at DLF’s The Dahlias on Golf Course Road for about Rs 380 crore in 2025. The units, in adjoining towers of the under-construction project, will be interconnected into one residence.
