News: Dwarka Expressway Residents Protest C&D Waste Yards-23-02-2026
About 500 residents of high-rise societies along the Dwarka Expressway, joined by villagers from Daulatabad and Babupur, protested on Sunday against Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste dumping yards proposed in Sectors 103 and 106 of Gurugram.
The Dwarka Expressway Gurugram Development Association (DXPGDA), which organised the protest, raised concerns about public health, air quality and liveability. Protesters said the Sector 103 site is barely 50 metres from a play school and adjoins dense residential societies and Daulatabad village.
Convener Sunny Daultabad said the facility would be a massive nuisance and the area’s single largest source of air pollution. Deputy convener Prakar Sahay said residents had been promised a "Singapore-style Lake City" and need parks, sports facilities and green belts, not waste mountains.
Yash, an advocate living in Godrej Meridien, said families had put their life savings into homes there for a peaceful life, and a hazardous yard would endanger the elderly and children. RWA presidents and village leaders from sectors 99 to 115 attended. Dhananjay Jha, president of Suncity Avenue, and Sunil Sareen, vice-president of Imperial Garden, both in Sector 102, said residents are united against any waste facility in residential zones.
Haryana cabinet minister Rao Narbir Singh said nobody wants a dumping yard nearby, but the city has thousands of societies and waste cannot be sent to another city. He promised to discuss a practical solution with civic agencies. MCG joint commissioner Naresh Kumar said a meeting would be held and a decision taken after reviewing all aspects, adding that residents’ opposition often makes solutions difficult.
DXPGDA named a 20-member delegation, 10 from villages and 10 from societies, to meet the mayor, local MLA, MP and chief minister. It gave authorities a week to move the facility to a non-residential site, failing which it will approach the National Green Tribunal and intensify the agitation.
