News: Pollution Board Wants Gadoli Effluent Plant to Protect Drain-20-02-2026
The Haryana state pollution control board has asked the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) to build a common effluent treatment plant (CETP) in Gadoli village so that washing units stop releasing effluent into the Badshahpur drain, officials said on Friday.
In a communication dated January 23, the board said many illegal washing units in and around Gadoli discharge untreated effluent into nearby drains, causing serious pollution and degrading the Leg-3 drain, which flows on to the Yamuna. Regular enforcement has closed 37 units and imposed environmental compensation of more than Rs 26 crore.
Given the area’s sensitivity, the board proposed locating the CETP next to Gadoli’s final discharge point so no untreated or partly treated effluent enters the drain. It suggested involving the municipal department and the state industrial infrastructure corporation.
GMDA chief engineer Hemant Kumar said the matter is under consideration. CETPs are built by HSIIDC, while GMDA and other urban departments develop STPs, and the authority will consult stakeholders as directed.
