News: GMDA Plans Metal Crash Barriers on Sectors 1-57 Roads-20-02-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will install metal crash barriers and steel dividers on roads from Sector 1 to 57 to improve safety. Two tenders worth about Rs 9 crore have been floated, with one year to complete the work.
A senior official said the features will smooth traffic, curb speeding and reduce accidents, and the plan will eventually extend to all city roads.
A spokesperson said the structured plan also covers signage, cat eyes or road studs, delineators, median markers, chevron boards, jersey barriers and bollards, particularly on vulnerable stretches and in construction zones, to improve visibility and regulate movement.
On December 29 last year, deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Dr Rajesh Mohan wrote to GMDA seeking improvements at 80 intersections lacking safety equipment. They include Bristol Chowk, Z Chowk, AIT Chowk, Artemis Hospital Chowk, Kabutar Chowk, the Nirvana Country signal and Mayfield Garden Chowk.
