News: Haryana Proposes India’s Tallest Building at Global City-20-02-2026
Haryana plans to make India’s tallest building the centrepiece of Global City, a 1,000-acre integrated development on the Dwarka Expressway near Gurugram. Cabinet minister Rao Narbir Singh said the project is at the proposal and Request for Proposal stage; no bidder has been finalised and consultancy support is under consideration.
The mixed-use tower would hold premium offices, global corporate headquarters, hospitality, observation decks and public spaces. Officials want it to symbolise the state’s economic ambition, comparable with skylines in Singapore, Dubai and major European cities. Singh said it is integral to winning international recognition for Global City and that the government is moving in phases.
Planning documents envisage about 1.8 lakh residents and a floating population of around 5.2 lakh. Internal mobility will rely on Light Rapid Transit, electric buses, walkways and cycle tracks, with schools, colleges, offices, multi-speciality hospitals, retail, bus depots, fuel and EV charging stations, fire stations, exhibition and convention centres and a multi-sports complex within a 15-minute walk.
More than 56% of the area is reserved as open and green space, with over one lakh trees planned. Officials expect surface runoff to be 55% lower than in dense urban areas and local temperatures up to five degrees Celsius lower. The layout includes green corridors, grass pavers and no-vehicle zones; buildings will follow LEED, GRIHA and IGBC standards, with solar-shaded parking, solar street lights, rooftop solar, smart metering and bio-waste reuse.
With an overall FAR of 3.0 and built-up area above 120 lakh square metres, the project is projected to attract nearly Rs 10 lakh crore in investment, create over 5.2 lakh jobs, host more than 200 multinationals and raise Gurugram’s IT and ITeS exports by nearly 30%. It draws on lessons from Singapore, Japan, the European Union and Dubai and aims for round-the-clock power and water.
Trunk infrastructure for Phase 1 is about 20% complete.
