News: MCG Misses Target to Make 27 Gurugram Roads Dust-Free-20-02-2026
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has missed its January deadline to rid 27 identified roads of dust. Its action plan of December 30, 2025 called for 49 km to be made dust-free each month, but most stretches remain coated.
Officials blamed limited resources and the pressure of several ongoing development projects. MCG said 119 tonnes of dust were collected manually and 65 tonnes mechanically on the 27 roads in January.
The city has 18 mechanical sweeping machines against a requirement of 42, and 4,910 personnel against 5,426 needed, the plan says. With existing resources, fully dust-free roads citywide could take up to three months.
Additional commissioner Ravinder Yadav said eight roads will get special attention: Bakhtawar Chowk to Subhash Chowk, Rajiv Chowk to Hero Honda Chowk, Umang Chowk to Hero Honda Chowk, Shyam Baba Chowk to Dhankot Village, Mahavir Chowk to 4/7 Chowk, Sanath road, Sohna Chowk to Mahavir Chowk and the Old Southern Peripheral Road. They have been cleared once, he said, but keeping them clean needs continuous sweeping and monitoring.
Residents have raised concerns about air quality and health risks for children, the elderly and people with respiratory illness. Gauri Sarin, founder of Gurugram Residents Against Pollution, called monthly road-wise targets ineffective and "the biggest joke", asking why all roads cannot be cleaned daily and noting that roads and footpaths are broken.
The plan targets 294 roads, or 528.1 km, in 2026, including 23 roads by the end of February.
