News: Rs 34 Crore Rebuild of Old Delhi Road–Rezangla Chowk Drain-19-02-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) on Thursday approved reconstruction of the stormwater drain between Old Delhi Road and Rezangla Chowk at a cost of Rs 34 crore, to stop waterlogging in sectors 21, 22 and 24, Palam Vihar, Udyog Vihar and nearby areas. A tender will be floated soon.
Executive engineer Vikram Singh said the GMDA CEO has cleared the rehabilitation and augmentation of this part of Leg 1. The dilapidated drain along Major Sushil Aima Road, now 2.5 metres in diameter, will be enlarged to about 5 metres. The section from Udyog Vihar to Old Delhi Road is already 4.5 metres wide. The culvert on Old Delhi Road will be built separately.
Sushil Aima Road is about 30 metres wide. Nine metres will go to the metro line, and the rest will hold the drain, a footpath and green space. Metro authorities have approved the widening.
Leg 1 begins at Nathupur and runs through DLF Phase 3, Udyog Vihar, Sector 23, Rezangla Chowk, New Palam Vihar, a railway crossing and Bajghera to the Najafgarh drain. It is one of three main drains, with Leg 2 and Leg 3, the Badshahpur drain.
In 2016, after severe flooding in Udyog Vihar, the drain was widened to 4.25 metres up to Old Delhi Road. Widening onward to Palam Vihar through sectors 21, 22 and 23 was dropped when residents protested against tree felling.
