News: Two Firms Bid to Plan Rs 2,500 Crore Gurugram Drain to Yamuna-19-02-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) said on Wednesday it has opened technical bids from two consulting companies for a drain from Badshahpur near Vatika Chowk to the Yamuna in Palwal, along the Gurugram-Sohna road. The work will be awarded after financial bids are opened.
The consultant must fix the route and capacity, carry out topography studies, and examine alternatives such as diverting water into the Aravalis and ponds along Sohna road and nearby villages. Stakeholder departments, including agriculture, estimate the cost at about Rs 2,500 crore.
A senior official said that in the monsoon 12,000 to 15,000 cusecs flow from Gurugram’s drains into the Najafgarh drain, which can carry only 10,000 cusecs. The excess spreads over fields and often flows back, submerging several areas. The new drain is expected to take about 30% of the excess towards Palwal.
Chief minister Nayab Singh Saini directed at a November 10 meeting last year that a plan be prepared, with suggestions from Rao Inderjit Singh and Rao Narbir Singh. Union minister Manohar Lal had earlier sought such a plan to curb waterlogging in Delhi and Gurugram.
