News: Gurugram Metro, Road to Share Pillars on Old Delhi Road-16-02-2026
A 1.25 km section of the Gurugram Metro on Old Delhi Road, between Jwala Mill T-point and Dundahera, will be built as a double-decker structure carrying the metro on one deck and an elevated road on the other, both on the same pillars.
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) asked Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) to design it this way because it plans an elevated road on Old Delhi-Gurugram Road from Atul Kataria Road to Dundahera. The matter was discussed at a project review at GMRL’s office last week. Additional land is being identified for the Sector 21 station.
Officials said the need arose after the metro alignment was moved from Rao Gajraj Singh Road towards Dundahera to reach more commuters along Old Delhi Road and Udyog Vihar; the RRTS has also shifted from Old Delhi Road to the Delhi-Jaipur Highway.
A similar arrangement has been proposed between Ghata and Vatika Chowk on the Sector 56-Pachgaon metro route along the Southern Peripheral Road, and was submitted to Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited last December. GMRL said the model has been used in Nagpur, Jaipur and Bengaluru and can cut construction costs substantially.
GMDA is also exploring a 7.4 km elevated corridor from Rajiv Chowk to the railway station and Atul Kataria Chowk, a second elevated road from Atul Kataria Chowk to the Dwarka Expressway via Dundahera, and a third 3.7 km stretch from Mahavir Chowk to Iffco Chowk.
