News: GMDA Hires Consultant for Gurugram Railway Station Hub Plan-10-02-2026
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has engaged a consultant to draw up an integrated station area development plan for Gurugram railway station and its influence zone, with the goal of easier commuter access, better traffic management and less congestion.
A senior GMDA official said the area is to become a smart transport hub with improved amenities, universal accessibility and upgraded infrastructure. The station already handles heavy footfall, and the proposed Gurugram metro spur and Bhondsi metro will add to traffic, so steps are being taken in advance.
The consultant’s brief covers multimodal access and interchange, pedestrian improvements, forecourt and entry precinct planning, shelters, covered walkways, kiosks, wayfinding, lighting, CCTV and accessibility features, along with streetscaping, landscaping and beautification of the influence zone and nearby public spaces.
GMDA will mark out pick-up, drop-off and holding areas and develop and manage parking around the station. Utility and drainage systems in the area will be augmented, and road links to major roads nearby are to be improved. The official said the main objective is to decongest Old Gurugram and offer residents an integrated transport service.
As part of the same effort, GMDA is hiring another consultant to study the feasibility of an elevated road from the railway station to Sector 5, on to Atul Kataria Chowk and up to Dundahera on Old Delhi road.
