News: Old Gurugram Metro Rerouted via Dundahera After RRTS Shift-09-02-2026
Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) is altering the Old Gurugram metro alignment on Old Delhi Road because the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has moved the Delhi-Shahjanapur-Behrore RRTS corridor to the Delhi-Jaipur highway. The metro will now run closer to the Delhi border, up to Dundahera, and then turn to Shankar Chowk on NH-48.
The earlier plan linked Old Delhi Road to the highway through Rao Gajraj Singh Marg, which officials said is narrower. The new route adds about 1 km, serves more of Old Delhi Road and Udyog Vihar, and gives more room for tracks and stations, as the road from Hanuman Chowk to NH 48 is wider. Cost estimates for the tender are still being drawn up.
Under the revised plan, trains will run from Sushil Aima Marg to the Hanuman Temple in Dundahera village, then via Ram Chowk and the road separating Udyog Vihar Phase-3 and Phase-5 to Shankar Chowk. NCRTC had earlier routed the Namo Bharat train from Sarai Rohilla to Behror through Kapashera Border, Old Delhi Road, Atul Kataria Chowk and Maharana Pratap Chowk.
A senior GMRL official said the change lets the terminal station sit next to the proposed underground RRTS station at Shankar Chowk. Foot over bridges will link the metro station with the RRTS and Rapid Metro stations; the RRTS station will have three passenger underpasses, and DLF has already built one underpass there.
The state plans to seek World Bank funding, subject to a final decision by the cabinet committee on economic affairs. The phase two tender should take about another month to finalise.
