News: Rao Inderjit Sets Deadlines on Bandhwari Waste, Drains-07-02-2026
Union minister of state Rao Inderjit Singh reviewed Gurugram’s major infrastructure and environmental projects at a high-level meeting on Saturday, telling civic agencies to speed up work, keep to timelines and enforce environmental norms strictly.
On the Bandhwari landfill, officials said a fresh tender provides for scientific processing of about 1.68 million metric tonnes of legacy waste, starting by the end of February 2026 and finishing by February 2027, with more machinery and infrastructure being added. The dispute with the concessionaire is in arbitration, with the next hearing on February 16, 2026. The minister ordered monitoring of groundwater and environmental impact in Bandhwari and nearby villages, attention to residents’ concerns, and a stop to Faridabad’s waste being dumped there.
On flooding, he directed strict action against encroachments on natural drainage channels. Departments must survey and report within a month on all illegal obstructions to water flow, followed by enforcement.
Officials said non-functional rainwater harvesting structures are being repaired and 175 new recharge units will be built before the monsoon. The minister said occupancy certificates of large plot owners and housing societies without working harvesting systems should be cancelled.
He also ordered penal action against builders and industrial units releasing untreated wastewater into drains without sewage treatment plants.
The Rao Birender Singh Sports Stadium in Wazirabad must be completed and made operational by the extended deadline of January 2027. On water supply, work will begin soon on an underground pipeline replacing the Gurugram canal supply line from Kakroi village in Sonipat, which should significantly raise capacity. NCR channel works were also reviewed.
Those present included mayor Raj Rani Malhotra, MCG commissioner Pradeep Dahiya, Manesar Municipal Corporation commissioner Pradeep Singh and additional commissioner Ravindra Yadav.
