News: Gurugram Metro Needs One Acre for Phase One Pillars-05-02-2026
Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has asked for about one acre to build pillars and related infrastructure between Millennium City Centre and Sector 9 station in phase one of the project, officials said.
The newly constituted land purchase committee, headed by the Gurugram deputy commissioner, took up the request on Tuesday and discussed buying the land under the state’s recently notified purchase policy. No deadline is fixed, but officials expect to complete the purchase within three months through direct negotiation with owners.
A senior GMRL official, speaking anonymously, said land is needed near the proposed Sector 33 depot, near Hero Honda Chowk and at Basai village, where rooms, parts of houses and shops fall on the alignment. About 100 rooms near the depot must be acquired and three or four structures partly demolished; the details have been passed to the committee.
GMRL has also sought a Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran parcel of about 5.30 hectares at the Sector 33 depot on rent for its contractor, who needs it for depot work.
On phase two, from Sector 9 to Cyber Hub, the official said the consultant is finalising the tender, likely by the end of March. First-phase work is progressing steadily, with pillars from Millennium City Centre to Subhash Chowk expected by May.
