News: Manesar Civic Body Seeks Sewage Reports From 74 Societies-05-02-2026
The Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) will ask 74 residential societies in its area to report on how they treat and dispose of sewage, officials said on Tuesday, amid concern over wastewater being dumped on vacant plots.
HT reported on January 29 that tankers were emptying untreated water carrying suspended solids, harmful bacteria and chemical toxins on barren land in sectors 77, 78, 79, 80 and 82.
Joint commissioner Hitender Kumar said societies must submit a standard report covering STP compliance, pH and biochemical oxygen demand levels, and how treated effluent is disposed of or reused for flushing, landscaping or other non-potable needs.
A senior official said replies will be due within 48 hours of the form being issued. Further action against open dumping will be decided on the results, and societies that miss the deadline this week face scrutiny, including notices to the developers or RWAs managing them.
Licensing conditions of the department of town and country planning require group housing societies with more than 20 units, or generating over 20,000 litres of sewage a day (20 KLD), to install adequate STPs and discharge no wastewater into the main sewer. MCM sent a notice to one Manesar society last week for flouting STP norms.
