News: DHBVN Allows Hospitals, Delhi Metro a Second Power Source-03-02-2026
Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has allowed critical public infrastructure such as hospitals, irrigation canals and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to take power through independent feeders from two different sources, officials said on Monday.
Earlier these consumers could use only DHBVN’s independent feeders within Haryana. Now those performing public functions may also connect to other sources, including discoms in Delhi or neighbouring states, particularly near the border.
Managing director Vikram Singh said one feeder must be declared primary and the other kept on standby. Public relations officer Sanjay Chugh said consumers may switch to the alternate feeder of 11kV or higher during outages, but cannot draw from both together or split load, as that could damage infrastructure.
A senior official said DMRC, which had to use DHBVN power once inside Haryana, can now opt for Delhi supply. The policy follows a Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission order of May 13 last year.
Fixed charges apply on both sources. Consumers need interlocking mechanisms or automatic transfer switches and a common meter after changeover, with combined billing, plus an NOC from Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited and clearance from the chief electrical inspector.
