The department of town and country planning’s (DTCP) enforcement wing on Thursday sealed eight residential units in DLF 1 areas for running commercial activities without mandatory permissions.

Earlier, DTCP had sealed more than 50 properties in upscale residential colonies for building norm violations. District town planner (enforcement) Manish Yadav confirmed that the department sealed eight housing units where owners were running commercial activities.

During the drive, owners of eight residential properties applied for permission to operate commercial activities under the non-nuisance activity rules and around 12 units where commercial activities were going on were found vacant during the inspection. Yadav said even during the sealing drive, some property owners were found closing down their units in the residential area and vacating the premises.

“We have already covered Suncity, Sushant Lok 1 and Golf Course Road and sealed more that 50 properties in the last one week. Property dealer offices, guest houses, commercial offices were sealed in the name of commercial activities in these residential houses,” he said.

On the orders of the DTCP director general TL Satyaprakash, the enforcement wing is carrying out a sealing drive to stop the commercial activities going on in residential houses of licensed colonies. So far, notices have been issued to more than 800 activities and orders for restoration have been issued to more than 300, said an official.

The department is fully focused on illegal commercial activities in DLF Phase 1, 2, 3, 4, Sushant Lok 1, 2, 3, Suncity, Vatika India Next and South City - 1, 2.

Officials further said that the effect of the sealing campaign has started showing on the ground as well. “People have started removing commercial activities from their houses. Many house owners have applied for permission for the activities being conducted under the Non Nuisance Rules. These applications include real estate offices, CA and lawyer offices, doctor clinics, etc,” an official said

According to the official, they have set a target of sealing around 150 commercial activities this month.

Officials are repeatedly appealing to people to stop commercial activities as sealing action will be taken if such activity is found

Meanwhile, the residents have been complaining about overburdened infrastructure due to unauthorised construction and illegal commercial activities on residential plots. “Despite repeated reminders, the property owners have not taken mandatory permissions from the competent authorities for operating non nuisance activities, like offices, which is allowed on 25 per cent area on the ground floor” said Deepak Sharma, a DLF 1 resident.
