Residents of DLF 2, Sector 56 and Ardee City are a harried lot these days due to daily unscheduled power cuts. They said they have been facing outages lasting six to eight hours daily for the past two weeks

Recurring failure of power infrastructure, low voltage, fluctuation and tripping are common here, with residents blaming the discom for failing to provide adequate supply despite repeated complaints. Residents of DLF 2 alleged they have been witnessing unscheduled power cuts since April and the situation has only worsened as the monsoon began. This, they said, has affected water supply too in the area.

RN Srivastava, a member of DLF 2 RWA, said the condition of power infrastructure in the area is deteriorating and needs a major overhaul due to the huge influx of population after four-floor buildings were allowed.

“But the authorities are not concerned about it. As soon as mercury rises, there are outages in the area. On Monday, power was disrupted for about six hours due to a fault in an underground cable on Dakshin Marg. On Tuesday, there was a power failure at the substation and another fault at the powerhouse on Wednesday. These days, we hardly get water for 20 minutes daily. But outages lead to cut off of water supply during this time,” he said

It's the same story in Sector 56, where residents have alleged that the power infrastructure isn’t maintained. “There was no power from 6am to 2.30pm on Thursday. On Sunday, there was no electricity for over 12 hours. We have been witnessing long outages for the past 20 days. Every time, discom officials give excuses like breakdown, fault at powerhouse or defunct transformers,” said Harish Yadav, president of Sector 56 RWA.

“Several outages have been reported in Ardee City over the past week. There was no electricity from 1am till 6am on Friday,” said Chaitali Mandhotra, a member of Ardee City RWA.

Meanwhile, DHBVN superintending engineer (circle 2) PK Chauhan said there is no power shortage and the outages were caused by local faults.

“There was no major problem in Ardee City and outages may have occurred due to a local fault, which we will check. There were some issues at the 220 kVA substation in Sector 72 on Wednesday and an electrical jumper was damaged in Sector 20, which disrupted supply in DLF 2. There was a fault in Sector 56 substation, due to which it remained out of circuit for seven hours on Thursday. We are constantly monitoring the situation since the smart grid project is also under way in the area.”
