News: Flat handover delayed by a year; buyers of Mahira Homes protest at Jantar Mantar-02-06-2023
: After failing to get their homes and support from government agencies, homebuyers of Mahira affordable housing project in Sectors 68 on Thursday started an indefinite protest at Jantar Mantar alleging that around 5,000 homebuyers of affordable housing projects in sectors 63, 68, 95, 103 and 104 in Gurgaon launched by Mahira Homes developer are still waiting for their homes
The homebuyers are alleging that HRera, DTCP and other concerned departments have failed to take action against the developer who has cheated the homebuyers and stopped construction of the projects. They alleged that the affordable housing project was to be completed in 2022 as per the provisions of the policy under Pradhan Mantri Jan Awas Yojana, but only 60 per cent of the work has been completed till now.
The project — Mahira Homes in Sector 68— was launched in 2018. Around 1,500 families bought flats in this project and were expecting possession in 2022 but the construction hasn’t been completed yet.
In May 2022, the DTCP had cancelled the licence of Mahira Homes affordable housing project in Sector 68 for “forging project related documents and fabricating bank guarantees”.
However, on September 5, 2022, additional chief secretary of DTCP Arun Gupta restored the licence of the group on the condition that they would complete the project within 6 months, but the developer failed to start the construction.
Homebuyer Pawanpreet Singh said, “We have to pay the rent as well as the EMI. When we approach the DTCP and HRERA officials, they give us assurances but do nothing on ground.” Dhruv Kapoor, one of the homebuyers said the developer and government authorities are making fool of buyers in the name of affordable housing policy as the authorities are not helping the buyers
Meanwhile, the developer told TOI, “We will deliver the project by December 2023. Right now the accounts of the company are freezed by HRera”.
