News: ‘Municipal Corporation Gurugram workers damage pipeline, potable water being wasted’-14-06-2022
GURUGRAM: At a time when many areas in the city are facing severe water shortage, gallons of potable water has been going down the drain in Sector 104 near Zara Aavaas for over a week as the civic authority has failed to plug the leak.
Residents pointed out that a water pipeline has been leaking near the society for the last seven days due to the callous attitude of the civic authority. A few days ago, workers of a private agency, hired by the MCG, had damaged the water pipeline while cleaning the drains, said residents.
They alleged that despite raising the issue through social media, no action has been taken on the matter yet. “For the past seven days, the water has been leaking in front of our society whenever there is a supply. Several complaints have been made to concerned authorities but it seems they have turned a blind eye to the situation,” said Hemant Sharma, a resident of Zara Aavaas.
Another resident Ankur Singhal maintained that “there are areas where people are struggling to get even a drop of water but due to the apathy of the civic body, gallons of water is being wasted here.”
The accumulated water is causing hardship to pedestrians and has also become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Suresh Dahiya, a resident said, “Road has become slippery with water flowing onto it. Also, the damaged pipeline can contaminate the water supply.”
Meanwhile, a senior official of the MCG said, “I was not aware of the matter. However, now I will get it checked and the needful will be done.”
