News: More green belts for new sectors soon: Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority-13-06-2022
GURUGRAM: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is now planning to maintain the green belts in new sectors through people’s participation involving RWAs, said a senior official on Sunday. The development authority will sign the memorandum of understanding with those RWAs who are willing to maintain the green belts.
On Sunday, a team of GMDA officials met various RWAs of sectors 81 to 95 to discuss development of green belts, which are aesthetically beautiful and will enhance greenery in the vicinity. In addition to this, they discussed the issue of judicious use of excess STP water for horticultural purposes to ensure the survival of the plants.
Subhash Yadav, the additional chief executive officer of GMDA and in-charge of urban environment wing, said that the development authority is planning to lay the pipeline of treated water in the area where excess STP water of the society can be utilised for irrigation purpose. “We will start fencing the green belt areas and lay the pipeline to increase the utilisation of waste water. We will also provide financial assistance to the RWAs at a fixed rate,” Yadav said.
“We are preparing the list of RWAs, who have shown interest and have excess treated water, then we will lay the pipeline and use the treated water for horticulture. The accountability of maintenance of greenbelt will be fixed, if they fail to maintain it properly then we take the charge,” he added.
RWA president of Mapsko Casabella Rao Dharamveer Singh said, “We have been raising this issue for the past five years and such measures are always welcome. The GMDA is now coming up with plans, including fencing, provision for pipeline and plantation so that the survival rate of the plants will be higher and it will surely boost the greenery which is most required in the area.”
Praveen Malik, RWA president, Sare Homes, said they have been already maintaining the adjoining green belt of the society and have constructed artificial ponds with excess treated water. “At present, the area does not have a proper sewerage system and so, most of the societies are either disposing excess STP water through tankers or illegally dumping that into drain channels.”
