The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has conducted several anti-encroachment drives in sectors 40, 54, 56, and 57 under heavy police presence in the past two days, said officials on Friday

The MCG cleared 40 shanties, which were built along the road leading between Golf Course Extension Road (GCER) and Dharm Marg, in Sector 57 on Friday, said the officials, adding that all the shanties were demolished with hydraulic excavators and no major resistance by the locals were reported during the drive.

Around two acres of prime civic land were recovered during the drive, the officials added.

The MCG also removed encroachments inside a park in Sector 40, the gate of which had allegedly been locked from outside, because of which the residents could not access it. Small illegal structures were also built inside it, according to the officials.

After the MCG removed illegal encroachments and lock of the gate of the park, residents of the area also met the MCG joint commissioner, the sub-divisional officer (SDO), and junior engineers, who were present at the spot regarding a dispute over a water pipeline connection. The MCG officials resolved the matter following several rounds of discussions, they said.

On Thursday, the MCG removed anti-encroachments on areas near Golf Course Road (GCR) in sectors 54 and 56, where they demolished and seized illegal roadside shops, local eateries, and small kiosks.

According to the MCG officials, the civic body’s enforcement team faced minor resistance from shop owners as soon as the drives commenced, however, police personnel deployed there quickly defused the situation and ensured that no obstruction was caused during the drives.

“All the encroachments removed during the drives were on MCG land. All the structures were demolished or seized, and their owners were cautioned that the MCG will take action against them as per the law, in case of such future encroachments,” said SS Rohilla, public relations officer (PRO) of MCG.
