Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari said that of the â‚¹1,407 crore, â‚¹513 crore will be spent on constructing 16 structures that include flyovers, bridges, underpasses on the highway, while â‚¹800 crore will be spent on repairing and improving the highway itself.

Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday inaugurated 19 projects, including flyovers at Manesar, Bawal and Bilaspur, a bridge at Masani, several smaller bridges and flyovers in Rajasthan, and repair works on the entire Delhi-Jaipur Highway at a cost of â‚¹1,407 crore. Gadkari said the projects will help improve transport infrastructure and ease the commute.

Gadkari said that of the â‚¹1,407 crore, â‚¹513 crore will be spent on constructing 16 structures that include flyovers, bridges, underpasses on the highway, while â‚¹800 crore will be spent on repairing and improving the highway itself. “When I became minister, several delegations came to me and highlighted the poor condition of this road. It had several problems and many contractors gave up on it. But now we are happy the work is on track,” said Gadkari. He also said that the construction of three underpasses on the highway has been approved in principle.

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala, and Union minister of state and Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh attended the event held in Pachgaon.

Khattar said that these projects will greatly improve commuting on the highway. “Under the leadership of Gadkari, a large number of roads in rural areas are being built as part of the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana. Haryana has built 17 new national highways in the last seven years and work on 11 more is in progress,” he said, adding that the state government had decided to construct five major townships along the KMP Expressway, including one at Pachgaon.

Rao Inderjit Singh, who on Tuesday asked chief minister Khattar to ensure that several new development works he announced recently are completed on time, said during Wednesday’s event that projects such as an engineering college at Kukrola, and a government college and sports stadium in Manesar, announced a couple of years ago by the CM, were pending. “Gurugram has a shortage of government health care institutions and a civil hospital is still under construction. Where will poor people go for treatment? I request the state government to complete these projects,” he said

Singh also said that the construction of a cultural centre in the city--announced in 2015--is still pending.

In his reply to the issues raised by Singh, Khattar said that he will ensure “balanced development”. In a lighter vein, Khattar also asked the Gururgam MP to list the works that have been completed. “I am sure that almost 90% of the works have been completed and only 10% are pending. I assure you that they will also be completed soon,” he said.
