Similarly, developers of seven illegal colonies, spread over 35 acres of agricultural land, were served notices by the enforcement wing of DTCP for violations of the Urban Area Act

Continuing its crackdown on unauthorised construction in Gurugram, the department of town and country planning (DTCP) on Monday sealed as many as 21 houses in C-block of Sushant Lok-1 for zoning violations and illegal commercial activities. Some of these property owners were running dental clinics, medical stores and salons from the premises in violation of the building norms, officials said.

Similarly, developers of seven illegal colonies, spread over 35 acres of agricultural land, were served notices by the enforcement wing of DTCP for violations of the Urban Area Act. The builders of these colonies have been given seven days to submit their replies, failing which the department will carry out a demolition drive

In fact, the department last month served show-cause notices to owners of 60 buildings in Sushant Lok-1 for various types of violations. In the notices, the department had asked the property owners to take permission for commercial activities but the owners did not pay any heed.

District town planner (enforcement) RS Batth said the property owners had been running dental clinics, chemist shops, property offices, showrooms, and other activities from the premises without any permission from the competent authority. “The properties will be desealed only after the property owners apply for permission,” he said.

The department also carried out a survey of the Vyapar Kendra market and warned the shopkeepers about encroachments in the passage and common areas.

On the seven illegal colonies in Farukhnagar, Batth said taking advantage of the construction ban, offenders developed unauthorised colonies and carried out plotting. “As per norms, no colony can be developed without taking a licence from the department. The department has directed the developers to furnish their replies by January 5, failing which demolition drives will be conducted from January 15,” he said.
