GREATER NOIDA: An Indirapuram resident was on Tuesday arrested and another booked for allegedly creating and circulating a fake advertisement on land allotments by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Area(YEIDA) on the social media to dupe people. The main accused, Manoj Sharma, told police that he had created the advertisement with the help of one Suraj Kumar and put it on Facebook to make quick money. He claimed to have taken the advertisement off the platform after he got a whiff about the case against him. In-charge of Beta 2 police station Anil Kumar said on December 9 the YEIDA submitted a complaint against some miscreants for allegedly putting up a fake advertisement of land allotments by the Authority on Facebook. “The complaint stated the YEIDA had not given put up any such advertisement and demanded strict action against the accused for using the state government entity’s name to make quick money,” Kumar said
Following the complaint, a case was registered under IPC Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000, the officer said. “We put the number mentioned in the advertisement on surveillance and were continuously tracking the location of the accused. On Tuesday, we got information that the accused would be coming near Pari Chowk following which a trap was laid and the accused was arrested,” Kumar said, adding that Suraj’s name surfaced during questioning and his name was added to the FIR. Police teams, the officer said, have been formed to arrest Suraj, who is currently absconding.
