GURUGRAM: In an attempt to generate more revenue, MCG’s additional commissioner Vaishali Sharma on Monday directed officials to expedite the recovery of property tax dues and undertake other revenuegenerating exercises like the issuance of trade licences. The zonal taxation officers have been directed to first identify property tax defaulters with dues over Rs 1 lakh and recover the same from them. TOI on December 10 reported that the MCG was staring at a revenue shortfall, with only four months left in this financial year. “We will serve notices to property tax defaulters with more than Rs 1 lakh dues and give them 10 days to pay up. If the defaulters fail to clear the dues within the stipulated time, their properties will be sealed. I have also directed the zonal taxation officers to submit a weekly report of recoveries,” Sharma said. The additional commissioner also directed the officials to compile the property survey tax survey data by December 3. The MCG officials were also told that the missing contact details should be updated in the survey data by December 31. She also directed the officials to visit at least 10% of the sites of the trade licence applicants. The civic body had estimated to generate a revenue of Rs 1,235 crore from property tax alone in the current fiscal. However, the MCG has so far only been able to recover only Rs 128 crore. Similarly, MCG has earned only Rs 2.8 crore from building plan approvals in the past nine months as against the estimated revenue of Rs 10 crore for the 2021-22 fiscal.
