News: Vatika City residents seek election, say AOA delaying it-15-09-2021
Gurgaon: Some residents of Sector 49’s Vatika City have sought an election for the apartment owners’ association (AOA) of the society and alleged that the current AOA is dragging its feet on the issue. They claimed that the tenure of the existing AOA will be over on September 30 and the election process is supposed to begin 90 days prior to the ending of tenure. The AOA is delaying the poll and trying to manipulate the election in their favour, they alleged.
The district registrar had appointed Mahadev Sharma as the returning officer (RO) on August 25 for a fair election in the society. Residents alleged that the AOA hasn’t shared the relevant documents, including membership lists, with the officer till date.
“AOA is not handing over the papers. As a result, the date of the poll is yet to be announced,” Satyawan Dagar, a resident, said. Nitin Mehta, another resident, alleged that despite paying huge charges, there have been “serious lapses” in the society’s maintenance.
Meanwhile, the AOA claimed that they started the election process in July this year. “In a meeting conducted on August 2, Col Santpal Raghav was appointed as the RO, and the VCAOA wrote to the district registrar for the approval of his appointment. Till a decision is taken in this matter, the election process has been kept on hold. The appointment of Mahadev Sharma as RO was objected to by VCAOA as he was the inquiry officer in allegations related to façade painting in the society and his report was controversial,” a member said.
RO Mahadev Sharma said, “I am yet to get the list of members to initiate the process. I have already informed the district registrar to take action accordingly.” The district registrar could not be reached despite repeated attempts.
