News: Plots marked for infra work turn dumpsites-08-09-2021
Gurgaon: Mayor Madhu Azad on Tuesday directed officials of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) to survey the vacant plots of HSIIDC and HSVP in the MCG limits and identify the projects for which the sites were earmarked.
In a meeting held chaired by the mayor on Tuesday, it was pointed out that various plots left vacant in the MCG limits have become dumping grounds and some plots are being illegally occupied. The mayor gave the directions at the meeting with MCG officials and told them to check the status of proposals approved in the last House meeting held on July 31.
After the survey is completed, the MCG will proceed with the development works planned for these vacant plots, said the mayor. For instance, the MCG will conduct a survey and identify whether the land was earmarked for a dispensary, community centre, park or any other public space.
The mayor said that the MCG will then work towards the development of these projects.
“There are a number of vacant plots of HSVP and other agencies in the MCG limits. These are either illegally occupied or have become dumping grounds for waste. I have directed MCG officials to check with the departments concerned to identify the projects planned on these vacant plots. If the agencies agree, we can develop green areas or make public spaces on them so that the vacant plots do not remain an eyesore,” said Azad.
Taking note of the increase in unauthorised structures coming up on the MCG land, the mayor also directed the MCG officials to clear encroachment on the MCG and government land on priority. The mayor also said that people illegally occupy government land by keeping an idol and turning it into a religious place and then gradually encroach upon the surrounding areas.
On the proposal to establish citizen facilitation centres in each ward, the MCG officials informed the mayor that staff, laptops, furniture and other equipment are being procured. Moreover, the mayor said in the meeting that the MCG should not grant permission for mobile towers in populated areas. The mayor also said that the government schools in various wards are in a dilapidated state for which she will also hold a meeting with the education department.
